It had a removeable rear portion, but not hinged.

Nope! The rear segment was detachable though.

dont know about 1957, but yes at one time or another it was hinged.
pre war not hinged at all and spilt under the saddle

Now i have to eat double dirt. Since looking up all the various parts files the giveaway is that the rear hinged model swinging arm rear guard was only sold as one item not like later detachable ones which you could buy separately. Of course they use the same picture for all years!! So correcto Moley my humble apologies!! Drugless.
